JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda says the R200-rand fixed monthly fee for prepaid electricity was initially planned for 2018.
However, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Residents have complained about the new cost.
The mayor is urging them to familiarise themselves with the new tariff regime.
Since 1 July 2024, City Power has been charging prepaid customers a surcharge of R200 on top of an increase in prices generally of nearly 13%.
