The metro's council has been left without a speaker following Collen Makhuebele's expulsion from her party Cope.
Gwamanda says he's confident a new speaker will be elected soon.

He's also dismissed notions of political instability in the city, saying there's no metro without challenges.

Gwamanda said, "the executive has been hard at work through my delegates and authority to MMC in various aspects of service delivery."

"I, as a matter of fact, have initiated two months ago an initiative called accelerated service delivery drive with the sole intention of reinstating the backlog that has existed in the City of Joburg."
