Israel-Palestine Conflict | ANC not surprised DA, ACDP, FF Plus opposed motion

JOHANNESBURG - The National Assembly has passed an amended motion calling for the suspension of South Africa’s diplomatic relations with Israel.

Some 248 MPs voted in favour of the motion to close the Israeli embassy down.

Israel, Hamas agree four-day truce, 50 hostages to be released

A total of 91 MPs, mainly from the DA, ACDP and IFP, voted against the motion.

But this does not mean the suspension will happen.

Parliament's Chair of Chairs, Cedrick Frolick, says the final decision still rests with the government.

Over 13,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli bombardments since the Hamas attacks in Israel on 7 October.
