Increasing aviation fuel levy to impact ticket prices

JOHANNESBURG - Domestic air travellers could be facing higher ticket fees.

This as the South African Civil Aviation Authority has issued its proposal on a three-year increase in the aviation fuel levy from April next year.

The propsed hikes are going to have an impact on an industry that is already grappling with higher operating costs and inflationary pressures.

The increases are set to be in line with inflation which is currently at 5.9 percent.

The aviation authority says the increases are justified because the airline industry is slowly returning to normal or pre-Covid-19 operations.
