JOHANNESBURG - The IFP has won ward 15 in the Mhlabuyalinga Local Municipality in northern KZN.
It received just over 1300 votes, compared with the ANC's 834, and 531 for the MK Party.
A seat became vacant after the death of ANC councillor Gidla Mthethwa.
The next by-election in KwaZulu-Natal will be in March when the ANC and MKP go head-to-head in Richmond.
This is a traditional ANC stronghold, but the MK was most popular there in last year's general elections.
Elections analyst Wayne Sussman says things are not looking good for the MK Party.
The support for the party seems to be dropping as the country heads to local government elections in 2026.
