Human trafficking | Lombardy East residents living in fear

JOHANNESBURG - Lombardy East residents fear a human trafficking syndicate may be operating in the area.

This follows the discovery of yet another suspected human trafficking ring on Wednesday.

Police rescued 32 Ethiopian nationals - mostly minors - after they escaped captivity from a house in the area.

Another 26 Ethiopian nationals were rescued from a similar ordeal in January.

According to the US Department of State's Trafficking in Persons Report,

South Africa is a hub for human trafficking, with victims often exploited for labor and sex.
