JOHANNESBURG - Deputy President Paul Mashatile will deliver the keynote address at this year’s national Human Rights Day event.
It's being held in Kariega in the Eastern Cape.
It was on this day, 21 March 1960, when police opened fire on a crowd of people who were protesting peacefully outside a police station in the township of Sharpeville - killing 69 people.
This year’s theme is 'Deepening a Culture of Social Justice and Human Rights.'
