JOHANNESBURG - The number of people who’ve lost their lives in the George building collapse incident has risen.
Efforts to retrieve those who are still trapped underground are continuing.
On Thursday, officials confirmed the number of workers at the site, at the time of the collapse, was 81. It was reported previously that 75 workers were on site.
The Death toll has risen to 8 with 44 workers still unaccounted for.
Some 37 people hve been rescued.
Meanwhile, demolishing equipment has been moved onto the site of the George building collapse.
However, Western Cape Disaster Management says it remains in rescue mode.
Rescue teams are still searching for dozens of construction workers.
George Mayor Leon Van Wyk says they are still hopeful but preparing for a possible increase in casualties.
