CAPE TOWN - A pit bull attack has left a four-year-old boy from Cape Town fighting for his life. C'Jay Nel was visiting a family friend in Macassar when the dog bit him, breaking his ribs.
The child's family is demanding that the owner be jailed.
Anna-Maria August, the victim's grandmother is distraught. She says C'Jay has been in intensive care at the Red Cross Children's Hospital for two weeks.
She says she and her two daughters, including C'jay's mother, were at work on the day the boy was bitten. She returned home to find police officials, who told her there had been an accident.
"The dog attacked him in a way that his ribs were broken. And his lungs were injured. The doctors had to attach pipes for him to breath normally as he was in extreme pain," August explained.
C'jay had visited this house several times before. The residents say they are appalled by what happened, and have apologised to the Nel family.
