Former KNP rangers get 20-year jail term for rhino poaching

JOHANNESBURG - The justice system seems to be taking the bull by the horns when it comes to rhino poaching.

Two former Kruger National Park Rangers have received an effective 20-year jail term.

Lucky Mkanzi and Joe Sihlangu were rangers attached to the Crocodile bridge Section of the KNP.

They were arrested in January 2019 on suspicion of helping move poaching suspects in the Godleni area.

Their vehicle was tracked to a rhino poaching crime scene and 41-thousand rand was discovered in their room.

Mkanzi and Sihlangu later confessed to their part in the crime.

SANParks says the sentencing sends a message that criminality in the Ranger Corps will not be tolerated.
