Concern over Gauteng as road deaths surge
PRETORIA - Gauteng has set a target of reducing road deaths by 35 percent this festive season.
But the preliminary numbers already show a 24 percent increase.
It's been reported that 187 people have already died on the province's roads since 1 December.
Both Gauteng and Limpopo are among five provinces flagged by transport officials as contributing up to 80 percent of road deaths every year.
Authorities admit that besides advocating for better driver behaviour, enforcement needs to be ramped up to counter the lawlessness.
