MBOMBELA - The fatal shootout in Pienaar township in Mbombela was gang-related.
This is according to Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Jackie Macie.
Eight people were shot and killed at a tavern in the township Saturday morning.
Police say the group started shooting at each other on the premises of the tavern.
Macie says that six of the people died on the scene while the other two died in the hospital.
