JOHANNESBURG - Eskom chairperson Mpho Makwana has resigned. The announcement was made by Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan, in a statement.
Makwana will officially step down at the Eskom annual general meeting
scheduled for the end of October. Eskom board member, Mteto Nyati will be appointed as interim chairperson of the board.
Gordhan and Makwana's relationship hit an all-time low in recent months, over disagreements on the selection of a new CEO for the power utility.
Makwana and the board had decided that there was only one appointable candidate, but Gordhan sent Makwana back to the drawing board, saying that a shortlist of three candidates was required.
