Over 20 taxis were impounded at the Marianhill toll plaza along the N3 in KwaZulu-Natal.
The minister expressed concern over the number of drunk driving incidents noted thus far.
She said, "What we have observed throughout the country is serious reckless driving influenced by quite a number of issues including drunk and driving and speeding... many accidents happen at night and it will be people that are drunk."
"What is amazing for us is people getting into their cars drunk on a national road, people are driving long distance, but a drunk person has the guts to drive on a national road."
