ORTIA drug bust
JOHANNESBURG - Drugs with a street value of R37 million have been seized at OR Tambo International Airport this week.
The bust was made by Customs officers of the South African Revenue Service.
Drug smugglers have become more creative.
They were disguised the 23 kilogrammes of narcotics as molded artwork.
The box, which officials found to be suspicious was headed for New Zealand.
The officers then used a narcotics test kit and some of the items tested positive for crystal meth, which weighed 10kg.
The SAPS also conducted its own tests and found that other items tested positive for fentanyl which weighed 13kg.
Investigations are continuing into the source of the substances.
