PRETORIA - Over 4 million South African households can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

The High Court in Pretoria has ordered the government not to switch off the analogue signal end of March.

eMedia led the application in the Pretoria High Court arguing that the 31st of March deadline would deprive millions of South Africans, of their right to be informed, educated and entertained through broadcasts via the analogue signal.

And the court agrees and has now offered these households some reprieve. It's ordered the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, to delay the switch-off.

Government has also been ordered to pay the costs of eMedia and the other broadcasters.
