CAPE TOWN - Two men -- leaders of the Gupta gang involved in a spate of extortion-related murders in Khayelitsha in March 2020 -- have each been handed seven life sentences for the murders they committed.
They were further sentenced for attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Western Cape High Court Judge Daniel Thulare painted a picture of men who conducted a reign of terror in Khayelitsha, going around extorting money, with no regard for human life.
Thulare also noted that some police officers in Khayelitsha were close to the Gupta gang.
