Roman Bezuidenhout, Ameer's father described what happened, "I was screaming the people were trying to help us, the ambulance took a while to come. I was speaking to him telling him I love him."

"I was by his side, the ambulance came after that, they tried to resuscitate him. We were rushed to the emergency and rushed him to ICU, they operated him around 3 in the morning, they managed to take out the bullet, but due to the fact that the bullet did too much damage, his brain was swollen up too much."

"He fought for two days, he tried to be strong for me, and Wednesday morning when they did the final scan he was declared brain dead, then after past eleven we were told that we need to give permission to take him off life-support.

"I think things could have been done differently. It could have been anyone else's child."

"There we too many children playing in the street, but yet people didn’t think twice to what they were doing. If there was more visible policing and the community could go and point out maybe the places where they hold out and how we can stop this thing."

Mishka Abrahams, the boy's mother said, "We are hoping they won’t get bail. They must be punished, it’s a big loss for us. We are going through hell."
