Crime in SA | Delft residents plead for second police station

DELFT - Over the past two weeks, 17 people were killed in Delft in the Western Cape.

With no arrests made, residents say they are fearing for their lives.

The community says criminals are using hours of overnight rolling blackouts to their advantage.

Residents are pleading with Police Minister Bheki Cele to build another police station.

The Delft Community Policing Forum says there are 16 police reservists in the area that are willing to help.

The CPF chairperson says one death is one too many.

Members of the neighbourhood watch say they too are scared to patrol the streets, especially during blackouts and blame officials for failing to address these issues.

Western Cape police say they’ve deployed specialised units to the area to deal with the scourge.
