JOHANNESBURG - The Western Cape High Court has reinstated rules around party political funding, pending the finalisation of new regulations by Parliament and President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa in May signed the Electoral Matters Amendment Act into law.

This altered the Political Party Funding Act and removed the R100,000 disclosure threshold and R15-million annual donation cap.
Lobby group My Vote Counts approached the court on an urgent basis to reinstate the previous thresholds until new regulations have been passed.
Judge Daniel Thulare ordered that it’s Parliament’s responsibility to resolve the upper limits and disclosure thresholds and that it’s the President’s responsibility to make the determination.
