Community Work Programme | Cosatu rejects the planned 67,000 job cuts

JOHANNESBURG - Cosatu has rejected massive jobs cuts at the Community Work Programme.

The Cooperative Governance department announced it would be ending contracts of over 67,000 elderly workers by the end of this month.

This is due to budgetary constraints.

Cosatu says it will seek an urgent meeting with Cogta and Finance ministers in a bid to reverse the decision.

The trade union federation also wants the President and Parliament to intervene to stop the job blood bath.

It says if cuts are needed, they should also apply to top government officials like ministers and mayor, not the poor.
