Communities call for urgent intervention as more children die from contaminated food

JOHANNESBURG - There are growing calls for an urgent intervention regarding the spread of foodborne illnesses.

Over 20 children have died after consuming food bought from local spaza shops.

Recently, a five-year-old died from alleged food poisoning in Diepkloof sparking widespread protests and calls for the closure of spaza shops in the area.

Calls grow for urgent intervention

Operation Dudula's Zandi Dabula says that nobody is being punished for the food poisoning crisis.

Dabula says evidence suggests the contaminated food is coming from factories, not just spaza shops.
