CAPE TOWN - Police have recorded a spike in crime and violence in Cape Town.
It's believed there's been an escalation of turf wars among rival gangs.
Community Safety MMC Reagan Allen said there are two scenarios currently playing out.
"One is where there's inter-gang violence because of drug turf wars when one particular gang member is either killed or arrested.
"But we have also seen, and what is deeply problematic, intra-gang violence where a number of gangs have split," he said.
"And that causes a number of flare-ups between communities."
