Cape of Storms | Evacuated families given the clear to return home

WELLINGTON - Heavy rains are expected to continue to pound the Western Cape on Sunday.

Over 900 families from Newton in Wellington have been given the green light to return home after they were evacuated after the Bo-Dal Farm Dam broke its banks.

A dam engineering specialist from the water and sanitation department inspected the dam, and assured local authorities that the risk of dam wall failure, has been mitigated.

Evacuated residents are not satisfied that the municipality has given them the go-ahead to return home.

Locals claim there's no backup plan to ensure they don't need to evacuate again if the rains return.
