JOHANNESBURG - ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa says business does not dictate what happens in government.
Business leaders recently wrote to the ANC and DA leaders, urging them to resolve their differences and preserve the government of national unity.
Tensions between the parties are at their highest as DA has decided to take ANC to court over the budget that was passed in parliament this past week. The DA is opposing the 0.5 percentage point VAT increase.
Ramaphosa has made it clear that democratically elected leaders are fully capable of making decisions that are independent of business influence.
Ramaphosa says the government is still discussing the impact of the new US tariffs on South Africa.
He says the country is formulating its response to the 30-percent tariff imposed on South African goods entering the US.
