CAPE TOWN - Will Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi pull off the implementation of national health insurance?

During debate on the Health Budget Vote in the National Assembly, Motsoaledi presented a R62 Billion budget for the national department of health for the 2024/2025 Financial Year.

Top of the government's agenda is the implementation of the health financing system for universal health coverage. Motsoaledi denies it's an expensive health system which the country has no money for.

Motsoaledi, emphasises that the gross inequality in the country’s healthcare system needs to end.

The minister says this is part of why it’s critical that the National Health Insurance be implemented.

President Cyril Ramaphosa in May signed the National Health Insurance Bill into law.

The Bill sets out to transform the county’s entire health system which will ensure equal access to quality medical care for all South Africans, regardless of their socio-economic standing
