Godongwana cleared of bribery allegations
JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg High Court has ruled bribery allegations he made against Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana are unlawful.
In 2023, Businessman Mthunzi Mdwaba publicly declared Godongwana and several other ministers were implicated in a R500 million bribery scandal.
He claimed to have been offered a bribe relating to a R5 billion Unemployment Insurance Fund scheme.
Godongwana then sued Mdwaba for defamation.
The court has ruled the assertions made by Mdwaba are defamatory and false.
It has ordered the Thuja Capital CEO to pay damages to the Finance Minister.
He also cannot do any interviews mentioning Godongwana and the alleged bribe.
