JOHANNESBURG - The SACP has called an urgent meeting of the Tripartite Alliance.
It wants to discuss Treasury's planned austerity measures.
The party is urging government to prioritise national interests over private interests.

Wwe’re extremely appalled by this approach by Treasury to impose budget cuts which is what is called austerity," said SACP secretary-general SACP Solly Mapaila said.
"We have called for an urgent meeting of the alliance together with our ally, Cosatu and the ANC, to discuss this matter because we’re not even consulted about this thing.
"We just hear pronouncements by the minister and the Treasury which has almost turned itself into the center of policy-making in government, irrespective of broad policies adopted by the government as well as by the manifestos of the ANC which we have endorsed as the alliance."
