JOHANNESBURG - As the African Union Champion on Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness, President Cyril Ramaphosa has raised concern over the rapid spread of the mpox virus .
He has called on AU member states to avail resources and put measures in place to contain the outbreak.

Ramaphosa welcomed the permanent representative committee's decision to reallocate Covid-19 funds to the mpox outbreak.
A total of 517 people have died out of 17,000 cases detected of ppox on the continent.
The World Health Organisation has declared mpox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
