An attack on police officers is equal to treason: Paul Mashatile

PRETORIA - Deputy President Paul Mashatile says an attack on a police officer is an attack on the state and is equal to treason.

Mashatile was speaking at the annual commemoration day to honour those officers who died in the line of duty between April 2023 and March 2024

One hundred and forty police officers have been killed since 2021, according to Mashatile.

Most of the men and women in blue were killed while on duty.

The deputy president encouraged serving officers to keep on serving the nation.

He has called upon the police minister and senior SAPS officials to come up with strategies to keep the men in blue and communities safe.
