ANC maintains budget will be passed with or without DA

JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress says it will engage with parties until the eleventh hour to get the budget passed in the National Assembly.

The 0.5 percentage point VAT hike and the Expropriation Act have created an impasse between the ANC and the DA.

The ANC says the government of national unity's statement of intent doesn't bar it from negotiating with non-member parties to get it over the line.

But the DA says this will spell the end of the GNU if the ANC seals a deal with parties outside of it.
