CAPE TOWN - ANC leader in the City of Cape Town, Banele Majingo, has jumped ship, to join the DA.
A motion of no confidence in Speaker Felicity Purchase - sponsored by Majingo - collapsed when he was a no-show in the chamber.
But the ANC in the city says Majingo's move is not one of integrity, but rather avoiding accountability as he is alleged to have been implicated in party candidate selection processes.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis announced Majingo's move before delivering the metro’s budget.
The ANC said it will continue taking the fight to DA despite Majingo's defection.
Even though the ANC respects Majingo's decision to jump ship, the party is calling for his immediate expulsion and for him to be removed from all the party's structures.
Spokesperson for the ANC Caucus in Cape Town, Lwazi Phakade says they want nothing to do with Majingo.
