JOHANNESBURG - The ANC and SAPC held their first bilateral meeting since the May elections.
The meeting that took place on Sunday discussed the escalating tensions within the tripartite alliance. Particularly, concerning the ANC's coalition with the Democratic Alliance in the Government of National Unity.
The SACP hopes to find common ground with the ANC on issues affecting the alliance.
General Secretary Solly Mapaila has described it as a betrayal of the principle of the National Democratic Revolution reflecting on matters including economic policy and transformation.
The ANC hopes the engagement with the SACP will iron out outstanding issues.
A political analyst says the SACP isn't making it easier for the ANC by constantly making demands that don't offer practical solutions to governance-related matters.
Both parties are expected to give an outcome on the matter soon.
Meanwhile, ANC spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri says while there's been disagreements between the parties, the alliance stays strong.
