Ajay Gupta to spend the next two weeks in Indian prison

JOHANNESBURG - Ajay Gupta will spend the next two weeks in an Indian prison.

He is the eldest of the three Gupta brothers who settled in South Africa and enjoyed close relationships with former president Jacob Zuma.

Ajay Gupta was arrested with his brother-in-law, Anil on Friday.

It is alleged the two threatened an Indian building contractor who committed suicide a few days ago.

Media there reported that both men appeared in court on Saturday and were remanded in custody for the next two weeks.

Ajay Gupta oversaw the family’s business interests in South Africa.

His brothers, Atul and Rajesh, are on Interpol’s Red Notice and will stand trial if arrested and brought to South Africa.

Ajay Gupta is not wanted in South Africa at this stage.

His brother-in-law, Anil, hosted the now infamous wedding of his daughter in Sun City over a decade ago.

Guests who attended the wedding arrived in a passenger plane at a South African Air Force base without the military's permission.
