JOHANNESBURG - Dennis Bloem, one of COPE's long-time members, quit the party on Friday.

He held a media briefing on Saturday to explain why he made the decision to leave.

Cope has not been stable for most of its existence, with factional battles leading to significant loss of electoral support, suspensions and even expulsions.
