Gerco van Deventer | Expert talks on challenges of reintegrating after captivity

JOHANNEBSURG - A whole new journey now awaits Gerco Van Deventer who was released after being abducted by Al-Qaeda militants in Libya in 2017.

His family will now have to wait for him to travel home, after news of his unconditional release was announced by Gift of the Givers over the weekend.

But the reality of coming back home might have its challenges not only for him but also those closest to him.

Clinical psychologist Dr Diana Zoccola says those reintegrating into society after traumatic experiences need to be treated with the utmost care.
