Concern over exorbitant fees on transactions at spaza shops

JOHANNESBURG - While spaza shop owners continue to breathe a sigh of relief following the extension of their registration deadlines, growing concerns about safety issues are taking center stage.

The Black Entrepreneurs Alliance has raised alarms over consumer safety and potential violations of the Consumer Protection Act in spaza shops.

The alliance highlights the widespread practice of foreign-owned spaza shops in townships imposing exorbitant service fees on transactions, especially when purchasing airtime.

They are calling for stronger action from regulatory authorities to address these concerns and protect consumers.
