JOHANNESBURG - Mamelodi Sundowns has a new coach.
Miguel De Azevedo Cardoso has been appointed in the role of head coach of the club with immediate effect.
The champions announced the appointment on Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement, the soccer club said the introduction of the new coaching technical team was necessary, given the unsatisfactory results.
Cardoso was head coach of Tunisian giants Espérance and reached the finals of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.
He joins Sundowns with three of his assistants, Fabio Fernandes, Pedro Azevedo and João Araújo.
Cardoso comes with an impressive list of achievements from coaching in Portugal, Spain, France, Greece, and Ukraine.
As Sundowns makes way for a new coach, the club has also sent out their regards to the departing Manqoba Mngqithi and Wendell Robinson for their loyal services.
"Manqoba Mngqithi and Wendell Robinson will forever remain part of the Mamelodi Sundowns Family.
Mamelodi Sundowns is also thankful to Romain Folz who recently joined the club," he said.
