JOHANNESBURG - Sobizana Mngqikana has been recognised by SA Rugby for his significant contributions to the sport during apartheid.
Mngqikana has been honoured with a Springbok blazer and tie.
He was part of the 1959 African Springboks team that took on a South African Coloured Rugby Football Board side.
Mngqikana was unable to attend the recognition event which was held 24-years ago due to his stay in Sweden.
He was also involved in politics as he relocated to the UK where he connected with the ANC's London office and close allies like former president, Thabo Mbeki.
He served as an ambassador to countries including Turkey and Finland before retiring in 2011.
