Proteas in driving seat after day one

CAPE TOWN - South Africa will have their tails up when they begin the second day of the second Test against Pakistan at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town.

After winning the second successive toss, the Proteas batted first as they lead the series 1-0.

However, things did not go according to plan initially as they fell to 72 for the loss of three wickets.

The trio of Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder and Tristan Stubbs departed early.

However, Ryan Rickelton and captain Temba Bavuma rebuilt the innings in fine fashion.

Rickelton is unbeaten on 176 while Bavuma chipped in with a well played ton before being dismissed.

South Africa ended the first day on 316 for the loss of four wickets and Rickelton is joined by David Bedingham at the crease.
