JOHANNESBURG - Orlando Pirates is parting ways with four senior players just six days after winning back-to-back Nedbank Cup.
Those packing their bags are goalkeepers Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane, striker Kermit Erasmus and midfielder Thabang Monare.
The announcement of their departure comes shortly after the Soweto Giants announced Fortune Makaringe and Souaibou Marou would be leaving the club.
This marks the end of an era.
Since his arrival in 2020, Richard Ofori has been a defensive rock, boasting an impressive record of 29 clean sheets in 58 matches. Beyond his on-field heroics, Ofori's leadership has galvanised the squad, leaving a legacy of unity and excellence.
With nine seasons at Orlando Pirates, Siyabonga Mpontshane leaves behind a legacy of discipline and dedication. While he showcased his talent, inconsistencies plagued his tenure.
Thabang Monare has been a symbol of grit and determination for the Buccaneers, featuring in 93 matches. His work ethic has been instrumental in the team's success, earning him accolades, including two Nedbank Cup victories, two MTN8 Cup triumphs, and a silver medal in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Kermit Erasmus made little impact after rejoining the Buccaneers in 2022 after a nine-years absence, owing to his recurring injuries. However, with over 117 matches in Pirates colours, Erasmus, affectionately known as Romeo, has cemented his status as a club legend.
