JOHANNESBURG - Bowling sensation Kwena Maphaka (18) has earned his first Proteas Test call-up.
Maphaka replaces Gerald Coetzee who was ruled out due to a groin injury.
Coetzee will not only miss the second Test against Sri Lanka, but is also not available for the series against Pakistan.
For Maphaka the call-up is the cherry on top of a whirlwind 2024.
He earned his first senior international cap in the T20 series against the West Indies and made his Indian Premier League debut while studying matric.
He has already been snapped up by the Paarl Royals for the third season of the SA20 while the Rajasthan Royals have paid over R3-million for his services in next year's IPL.
Maphaka recently took six wickets for the Lions in their Four Day match against the Warriors.
