Maphaka joins Mumbai Indians

JOHANNESBURG - South African teen sensation Kwena Maphaka has secured an Indian Premier League contract.

This means the 17-year-old will get a break from his matric studies to participate in the lucrative IPL.

He joins the Mumbai Indians as a replacement for Dilshan Madushanka, who has been ruled out due to injury.

Maphaka shot into stardom at the Under 19 World Cup which was hosted by his own country earlier this year.

The fast bowler was awarded the Player of the Tournament for picking 21 wickets.

He is one of the youngest cricketers to play in the IPL.

The left-hander will share a dressing room with his idol Jasprit Bumrah and compatriots Dewald Brevis and Gerald Coetzee.
