JOHANNESBURG - Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has been stripped of his captaincy at Kaizer Chiefs and suspended from first-team activities.

This was confirmed in a statement released by the Soweto giants following the conclusion of an internal investigation after Khune had allegedly arrived at training under the influence of alcohol two weeks ago.

Even though the club didn't reveal in detail the charges Khune faces, the disciplinary committee felt the need to take stern action against the club veteran.

The 36-year-old will only return to the team after completing the required programmes laid out by the club.

Khune's contract was extended by one more year at the end of last season and will expire at the end of the current PSL season midway through next year.
