BLOEMFONTEIN - The Cheetahs will start the search for a new coach after Hawies Fourie’s departure to join Boland Rugby.
The Boland Cavaliers announced on Thursday that Fourie will head the new coaching staff at the club.
It’s a familiar place for him, who will be returning to Boland after representing the club as a player in 1994 and 1995.
It's also where he started as a professional coach between 2002 and 2005.
Boland Rugby CEO, Quintin van Rooyen, welcomed Fourie with enthusiasm, saying, his extensive experience and deep connection to Boland Rugby makes him the perfect fit for the head coach role.
Fourie led the Cheetahs to the Currie Cup title last year, and takes over a team that prevailed in the competition’s First Division.
Meanwhile, Izak van der Westhuizen is reportedly expected to take over as head coach of the Cheetahs as they navigate through the EPCR Challenge Cup and the upcoming SA Cup.
