Bavuma to miss World Cup warm-up matches

JOHANNESBURG - Cricket SA has confirmed that ODI captain Temba Bavuma is set to return home earlier than planned.

It says he is returning to deal with personal family issues.

This means he will miss the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 warm-up match against Afghanistan.

He will also not play against New Zealand on the second of October.

Aiden Markram has been selected to captain the team while Bavuma is away.

This comes as a blow for Bavuma who would have wanted to play these matches ahead of the World Cup. South Africa’s first match will be a heavyweight encounter against Sri Lanka on the seventh of next month.
