DURBAN - As a young girl, Alani Ferreira’s dream was to become a tennis player.
But at the age of 12 she was diagnosed with Stargardt macular dystrophy, which affected her vision.
The visually impaired swimmer recently won the world’s largest open water event, clinching first place on day one in her category.
Next, she wants to qualify for the Paris Paralympics in August.
