Boks miss out on top awards in Paris

JOHANNESBURG - The 2023 World Rugby Awards took place on Sunday night with Eben Etzebeth making the Men’s 15s Dream Team of the year.

Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber, flyhalf Manie Libbok and lock Etzebeth were the South Africans nominated.

Nienaber lost out to Ireland’s Andy Farrell, who walked away with the coach of the year for winning a Six Nations Grand Slam, beating the All Blacks in a Test series and a quarterfinal place at the World Cup.

New Zealand’s Ardie Savea was named the Men’s 15s Player of the Year.

He beat Ireland's Bundee Aki, France's Antoine Dupont and Etzebeth to the prize.

Despite winning the Webb Ellis Cup, for a record fourth time, South Africa failed to pick up any individual awards in Paris.
