DURBAN - The 97th Comrades Marathon is underway in Durban with over 20,000 athletes participating in the up-run to Pietermaritzburg.
The gun went off at 5.30am to signal the start for participants.
All eyes will be on the likes of Gerda Steyn and Tete Dijana, who were victorious last year, winning the down run, and in record time.
The up run will see about 5,000 volunteers keep them safe, hydrated, fed and motivated.
Numerous roads are closed due to the race.
Good luck to all the taking runners who are taking part in the #Comrades2024 edition. We will see you on the other side. #NoDoubt #Nakanjani pic.twitter.com/IHrnTWveDp
