As our economy tanks, liquidations have become more common in South Africa. But liquidators often find themselves in the line of fire. Literally.
Especially if there’s a lot at stake. Liquidator Laila Motala allegedly recently found herself at the receiving end of a gun toting tycoon after the liquidation she was tasked with pitted her family the Motala’s against the Mohamed’s. As the liquidation unravelled she made a shock discovery – a brazen jewellery heist caught on CCTV camera.
The heist allegedly masterminded by the company director Hoosein Mohamed stripped Arthur Kaplan jewellers of R50m in high value items which have now disappeared without a trace. Given the body of evidence and witness accounts, are the police doing enough to bring the perpetrators to book?
